Protect, preserve, and promote Serpent Mound and other Native American sites, while facilitating education and experiences for visitors.


2013 FOSM Events

Please note that the Friends of Serpent Mound does not charge a fee for these events, however there is a $7 a car parking fee that is collected by the managing organization, Arc Of Appalachia on events held at Serpent Mound.

Spring Equinox
At Serpent Mound - all day
Many come to the park during the Equinoxes & Solstices to hold Ceremony. We support the park by being there to answer questions and help where needed.

June 21-23, 2013
Summer Solstice Celebration: History, Mystery, & Intrigue
At Serpent Mound - Sunrise-sunset.
The Friends of Serpent Mound will hold their annual festival to celebrate the first day of summer along with the setting sun alignment with the effigy mound. Visitor can enjoy vendor and educational booths or listen to lectures to learn more about the mysteries of Serpent Mound and the cultures that left evidence of being at Serpent Mound. End the day with a guided hike around the serpent effigy with an interpretive walk that will explore how past cultures used Serpent Mound as an ancient time piece and compare it with other cultures and solstice markers around the world.

Reptile Days
At Serpent Mound, 10:00a.m to 4:00 p.m.
The Friends of Serpent Mound is pleased to announce the return of Reptile Day. Kids of all ages can learn about local reptiles, through lectures and hands-on activities!

Perseids Meteor Shower Viewing
Register for directions to location.
We hope to take a count of how many meteors we see and what direction they are moving. Plus, there will be a guided tour thru the sky. There is no cost, but we ask that you register to get information on the location, by emailing or calling 1-937-587-3953.

Serpent Mound Mysteries Day
At Serpent Mound, 10:00a.m to 4:00 p.m.
In 2003, ten years ago, a crop circle was discovered across the road from Serpent Mound, why? Today we will explore that and several other mysteries surrounding Serpent Mound. Visit www.serpentmound.org for a complete schedule of the day’s lectures.

September 7, 2013
Archaeology & Ohio Geology Day 
At Serpent Mound, 10:00a.m to 4:00 p.m.
Members from different chapters of the Archaeological Society of Ohio will display their artifacts and be available to answer questions from the public.  Plus, learn about Adams County's unique geological feature “the Serpent Mound Crypto Explosion Area.” Do you have an artifact that you’d like to have identified, bring it along! However, there will be no buying, selling, or trading of artifacts on Serpent Mound property.

Autumn Equinox

December 21, 2013
Lighting the Serpent 
(rain or wind date Dec. 22nd), 4:00pm - 8:00pm
Celebrate the Winter Solstice at Serpent Mound by helping the Friends of Serpent Mound with their 10th year of Lighting the Serpent! Help volunteers light over 1000 luminary candles around the serpent effigy. Please bring a long taper candle and a flashlight and arrive by 5pm to take part in the lighting celebration, or arrive before 8pm, to enjoy in the scenic, holiday, festive glow. There will be free hot drinks and seasonal goodies, maybe even a food vendor for those wanting more!
